North Highlands Highlight

Ben Hope & Loch Hope

find accomodation in this area

Ben Hope (ON Hjop, Bay, 927m) is the highest mountain in the north. Its northern and western aspects are dramatic and craggy. It can be climbed from Alltnacaillich (Nc459457) by following a well marked, but steep and rocky path for about 3.5 miles. The panoramas from the summit are worth the climb. Many alpine wild flowers grow on the mountain.

Loch Hope is over 5 miles long, and drains to Loch Eriboll by the short river Hope. it is famous for its Sea Trout and Salmon angling and it is the most highly reharded of all Scottish lochs. The road passes good farmland with grazing cattle as well as abundant evidence of ancient human occupation.
