An Teallach

find accomodation in this area

AN TEALLACH (G The Forge) is perhaps named for its mists rising like smoke from its heights. This ridge of high peaks, corries, buttresses and craigs dominates Little Loch Broom, but to appreciate its real splendour one needs to do some hiking as the spectacular main corrie is not visible from the road.

The mountain has nine peaks over 950m, the highest two being Sgurr Fiona (The Fair Peak) and Bidean a’Glas Thuill (G The Sharp Peak of the Hollow). An Teallach is composed of Torridonian Sandstone with a cap of Quartzite. Its ascent is outside the scope of this book.

Loch Toll an Lochain below the huge corrie Toll is easily reached without any climbing experience. Paths go from corrie Hallie and Dundonnell Village. The loch is situated at about 520m. The best time of day to go is early morning when the sun illuminates the corrie.
